1. How can I still get into the ride?
Become a Huntsman Hometown Hero! There are still a few spots open. Pledge to raise at least $750 (all for cancer research), be a HERO in your community and receive a coveted entry into Little Red. It's a win win win!

Or wait until a couple weeks before LRRH and you will see ladies posting on our Facebook page, wanting to sell. Life happens, plans change and sometimes people end up selling their registrations - unable to use them when Little Red rolls around.

2. How can I still be a part of this event?

Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer. Or you could VOLUNTEER!
It takes hundreds of volunteers to pull off this event. Why not be one of them? AND, our volunteers receive great swag!!

The majority of our volunteers are needed Friday and Saturday, June 1st and 2nd, in Lewiston and the surrounding Cache Valley area.
There are many ways to help out, including SAG support, packet pick up, keeping the rest stops going, clean up, food prep, set up, information, etc… A ride this size needs hundreds of volunteers, be it two hours or 20 hours. We can find a spot for you!

3. I ordered the wrong size shirt or jersey! Can I change what I ordered??? Or can I exchange something???

This is rather complicated so PLEASE read this answer carefully.

We are going to order all merchandise from the manufacturer on March 1st. In order to guarantee your order or exchange requests, please place your order or request BEFORE March 1st!

We are ordering extra merchandise because we know how popular Little Red items have become. So AFTER March 1st and until May 1st orders and exchanges can and will only be fulfilled contingent upon our stock. In other words, we can only sell or exchange what we have in stock. We will not be getting any additional merchandise from the manufacturer before the Little Red Event. So your best bet to get all the merchandise you want, in the size you want, is to order it BEFORE March 1st.

After May 1st, any additional reqeuests for merchandise or exchanges will be handled at the Little Red Event on June 1st and 2nd. In other words, if you receive your packet and want to EXCHANGE for a different size, you will need to wait until Friday June 1st or Saturday June 2nd at Little Red. Exchanges will depend on product availability. Exchanges will depend on product availability!!! All exchanges will take place at the Little Red Boutique.

4. Can I still order merchandise?

Yes. PLEASE READ THE ANSWER TO QUESTION #3 and then read below.

The closing date for GUARANTEED merchandise is March 1st. Meaning that orders made BEFORE March 1st will be guarenteed to arrive before the Little Red.

After March 1st and until May 1st we can only fulfill orders using merchandise that we have in stock. If we have it we will sell it to you. If we have what you need, we will exchange it with you. If we don't have the style or size that you need, then we are truly sorry but we won't be able to fulfill your request.

After Little Red is over, on June 15th, we w ill place one additional merchandise order for JERSEYS ONLY. Again, for jerseys only. This order will be ship sometime in August.

Again ladies, the best way to get what you want is to order it now, before MARCH 1st for guaranteed happiness and an overall stylish Little Red appearance!!!!

5. What are the routes? what are the courses?

The course maps are on the site at http://www.bccutah.org/lrrh/about/course-maps/, subject to change.

6. I registered for ____ miles but I want to change to ____ . Can I do that?

Yes.EXCEPT FOR THE 100 MILE DISTANCE. We cannot add any riders to the 100 mile distance. We are limited by our Idaho permits, which allow us only 1000 riders to enter Idaho. And since that means the 100 mile route, we can only allow riders to change within the other distances. You can change your ride distance at the registration booth in Lewiston Friday night or Saturday morning. The distance is very important to the LRRH committee; it is what is used to designate your start-time, and to gauge rest-stops, lunches, supplies and water support.

NOTE: The LRRH Committee wants you to have a great experience. If you choose to change your distance after you start your ride, please ensure that you are familiar with the route and know where your  rest-stop opportunities will be. There have been instances where ladies haven’t factored this in to their distance change, and have missed their nutritional and water stops, and in some cases  - lunch!

7. Where can I stay? where can I camp?

There are several motels and campgrounds in the Cache Valley area (Wellsville, Logan, Brigham City, etc). Contact your favorite hotel/motel campground chain for reservations or go to www.tourcachevalley.com for a list of some of the area’s hotels/motels and campgrounds. Hotels, motels and campgrounds fill up quickly for this event. We suggest you make your reservations as soon as possible.

Yes, there will be free camping at the Lewiston Fair and Rodeo Grounds (100 East Center Street and 200 East Center Street). There are tent campsites and RV Parking available all day and night Friday and Saturday June 1-2. Facilities include portable restrooms and wash sinks. No reservations are required, it is first come first serve. These camp sites are within walking distance of the Little Red Expo, Dinner ($12 advance ticket purchase required), Costume Contest, Saturday Breakfast/Lunch/Ice Cream (non-riders $8 advance ticket purchase required) and the Start and Finish Line activities.

Please note there are NO RV hookups or indoor showers available. No campfires allowed.

8. What do I need to do to transfer my registration?

The exchange is totally between the buyer and seller. Neither BCC nor Active.com will act as a third-party or get involved with any transactions with regards to selling or purchasing registrations or merchandise that came with that registration. Registration packets will be sent to the original purchaser and it is their resonsibility to give it to the 'new' purchaser. The ride t-shirt will be in the registration packet and will be the size and style ordered by the original purchaser. Exchanges can be made at the event depending upon availability. The 'new' purchaser must show up at the registration booth at the event and sign the ride waiver.

9. What time should I be at the ride start ????

Registration/Check-in will open at 7am, the day of the ride. The first Riders go out at 7:30 AM and the Last Riders will start by 10:30 AM. The riders will start by distance, 100-miles first, 80-milers second, etc. Tentative Start times are:

100 mile riders
7:30 AM – 8:30 AM

80 mile riders
8:35 AM – 9:15 AM

50 mile riders
9:20 AM – 9:50 AM

36 mile riders
9:55 AM – 10:10 AM

18 mile riders
10:15 AM – 10:20 AM

Ride start times will be posted at the start in Lewiston. You must start at the designated start time for your distance. No early starts.

Little Red Riding Hood is not a race! This is an event to celebrate, cycle and have a great time!

Please enjoy your ride. The course closes at 6pm so you have plenty of time to enjoy your ride if you plan accordingly, know your limits and be mindful of your distance. If you are still on the course at 6pm, you will be picked up and sagged to the finish.We want to make certain that every rider is back safe and sound and on time, so please plan and ride accordingly.

10. What is happening Friday Night? Why should I attend?

EXTRA BONUS QUESTION!!!!

Can I ride the course if I am not registered?
Riding along as an unregistered rider jeopardizes the future of this wonderful and historic event because we have permits for only a fixed number of riders. If you are really counting on riding the ride and didn't get registered, we suggest you check back on Facebook.  Usually around the end of May there will be registrations up for sale. Please, don't ride Little Red unless you are a paid and registered rider. Bib tags, custom tie dye wristbands and lunch tickets on bib tags will be monitored at all the stops. Please keep Little Red safe and help ensure the future of this ride for years to come!

LITTLE RED STORIES, PART 1

Over the years we've had plenty of drama 'behind the scenes' at Little Red. Near disasters averted, or some that weren't - but thanks to our AMAZING volunteers we hung in there and 'made do'. We've also had plenty - in fact THOUSANDS - of riders who have great stories to tell. Riders that have overcome great odds, achieved personal goals, conquered new territories in their lives.

"It was Little Red 2001 and we had about 200 women riding. We arrived at the Wellsville Park and the restroom was locked. We had 200 women needing to use the restroom and the city office was closed. In desperation we called 911 and let them know we had a real emergency and 200 women needed to use the restroom! Soon after, the restroom was unlocked and the ride went on."

"Two years ago at Little Red I was driving from the start to the Amalga Rest Stop. I was the Lead at the stop and in charge of getting it set up. I spotted an elderly lady with a cane walking down the road. I had my bike on the roof rack and she signaled for me to stop, which I did. I rolled down the window and she leaned in and said, "What is going on today? How come there are so many cars on the road? Is there a funeral??!"

"I’ve ridden in the Little Red Riding Hood the past two years. The first year was to do something fun with my friends as I got back in shape from having my babies. Last year, the meaning of the Little Red Riding Hood took hold of me as my friend, my mother-in-law, had discovered a lump in her breast and was waiting for her diagnosis. All the riders, with their jerseys and signs of survivors, and those lost, brought tears to my eyes. Every pedal stroke became a prayer. A prayer for all of the woman and their families, who have experienced the fear I was feeling. The diagnosis came back as Stage Two breast cancer. The fight began that week after the LRRH."

"It’s been a long winter; first the chemo, then the double mastectomy, an infected implant that had to be removed Christmas Eve, now radiation with reconstruction to follow. My mother-in-law, Cindy, is a survivor. She is now cancer-free. Prayers are answered. She will join me this year at the Little Red Riding Hood. Each pedal stroke will be a prayer of thanks, of gratitude, and of love. Thank you for the medicines that have healed her. Thank you for the researchers and scientists who never give up. Thank you for saving the lives of our friends, sisters, mothers, and grandmothers. Thank you, thank you, thank you."

"My first Little Red ride. I'm about 40 miles into the century ride when I have a flat tire. I stop to fix it. A kind gentleman stops to see if I need any help. He's out driving in support of his wife. However, he tells me that he knows absolutely nothing about changing a flat tire. So he just watches me as I continue to change my tire. Unfortunately, I can not find anything in the tire that may be causing the flat; so I just put in a new tube, thank the kind gentleman, and begin peddling on my merry way."

"I peddle about a mile or so, and as you guessed, I have another flat.... This time, I am near a house and 2 men are in the yard and come over to see if I need any assistance. Again, they know nothing about changing a flat. So they continue talking and just watch me as I put a patch on my tube. This time I must patch since I've used my spare tube already. Just as I'm ready to pump up my tire, the SAG vehicle comes to my aid. He pumps me up in about 2 seconds and I'm on my way again! Success this time. And, it so happened that I was fortunate to have had the delays because I was able to miss a rain storm that was just in front of me. Riders that were about a half hour ahead of me were soaked by the storm! Yippee."

Little Red Riding Hood is in its 25TH year

Wow! Can you believe it? Little Red has grown to become the largest "For Women Only" century bicycle ride in the country. Even 'Cycle & Style' magazine wants to let everyone know that Little Red is celebrating turning 25! And we are proud of it! But taking a moment to ponder - did you ever wonder how Little Red got started in the first place?

The ride’s founder, Alice Telford, was inspired by the Cinderella Classic Ride in Alameda County, CA. It was alot of fun and Alice began thinking how she could put together something similar back in her home state of Utah.

While out riding one day with a friend through pastoral Cache Valley, with its small homey towns and lush farmlands, Alice decided she'd found the perfect spot for this new women’s ride. That year there were 25 women for the first ever Little Red. The ride continued year after year, growing slowly but steadily to about 185 riders by 1999. In some of those early years the men also included a ride called The Big Bad Wolf. The women rode on Saturday with the men providing support, and the next day the men rode the course 'backwards' while the women supported them.

As the years went by and the event grew and became more popular and more complicated, the men's ride was dropped. But not Little Red or The Wolf! Every year Little Red is whimsically portrayed on jerseys and tee shirts, and one lucky man is chosen to dress as Little Red and ride the course. Little Red is the heroine of the ride and always gets the best of the Big, Bad Wolf, which since 1999 has come to represent cancer.

The ride has grown to become a much loved Event, with a yearly theme, a Friday night party and celebration, live music, vendors, great food, over-the-top decorations, a finish line celebration and nonstop fun. With 3500 riders and hundreds of volunteers, Little Red is truly a one of a kind event, second to none. And by the way, Alice stills rides Little Red every year. Did we mention that Alice is in her 80s now? That's right! Our founder is truly an amazing, inspirational woman!!

Little Red's popularity continues to grow, and since 2005 we've included custom jerseys. These are colorful, fun and completely collectbile! How many do YOU have? Our themes have grown more elaborate, our numbers bigger. But in the end, Little Red is still a ride for women, out having a great time. Can you remember some of the details from our most recent years?

2005...the year the jerseys started. Little Red grew from 400 riders the previous year to 800 riders for the first time. What inspired the jerseys? It was the first year the ride had custom Little Red artwork and we wanted to flaunt it!

2006..... a 1930’s inspired Little Red... sexy and sassy....with the wolf lurking in the background. We really played up the male volunteers as big and bad and Little Red was in drag. We had 1,000 riders and our first costume contest.

2007.......In this version the wolf was in a tux on the front of the tandem serving our Little Red. We dressed the wolf up in a tux and served sparkling cider in champagne glasses at the finish line to our 1,700 riders. We held our first Friday night dinner and expo. This was the first year we started the silent auction and raffled off bikes to make more money for cancer research.

2008....LRRH went with a Wild West theme in 2008.W e wanted to expand our ride and welcome women from other parts of the country to the WILD 'RED' WEST. Little Red was all dressed up in country attire with the wolf tied up on the back of the bike. Entertainment included a western band at the Friday night Round Up and BBQ and we grew yet again to 2,400 riders.

2009 .... ALOHA! Our Hawaiian/Luau themed ride. We capped the ride at 2,600 riders and filled up by April. The Friday night dinner was a Hawaiian Luau. We had a Hawaiian show including male fire dancers. The food tables were adorned with grass skirts and big bad wolves lounging in the sand drinking pina coladas. All the volunteers wore Hawaiian shirts and the finish line included tropical drinks with decorative straws and hot pink leis.

2010.... Our Super Red/Super Hero theme! We capped the ride at a whopping 3,000 and filled up in just 29 days. We moved the entire Event to Lewiston and enjoyed the new, expanded location. The Saliva Sisters were on hand for the Friday night entertainment. We put the big bad wolf in a super wolf costume and Little Red (in drag) was in a Super girl costume. The volunteers were our SuperHeroes and together we raised nearly $60,000 to donate towards cancer research!

2011- Once again, we capped the ride at 3,000 women and filled up in a record 23 HOURS. Our weekend included a 1950's Theme complete with:
Meals at The Little Red Diner (complete with a couple of roller skating car hops).
The Big and Bad Wolf himself dressed in a black leather jacket and other bad boy 1950’s attire.
A 1950’s pink Cadillac to drive our wolf around the course during the ride.
A 1950’s style ice cream parlor for the finish line party
A live band with great Rock and Roll music!

Megan Lloyd's Story

Dear Little Red Fans,
Many of our riders ask, "Why has Little Red become so interested in raising funds for cancer research?". Below, you will find the heartbreaking story of a Little Red rider, Megan Lloyd, and her fight against breast cancer. We received this story after Little Red 2011 and wanted to share it with you.

Cancer touches all our lives, robbing us of friends, family and those dear to us. We know that many of our riders have been touched by this disease, are battling it now, have fought and won. And sadly there are those who fought and were taken away from us too soon.

Please join with us and the Huntsman Hometown Heroes program to raise funds for cancer research. Support a hero, become a hero and let's end this terrible disease.

July 12, 2011: Sent to Little Red from Carolyn Henrie

"Megan Lloyd rode her fourth and final Little Red Riding Hood Ride this past month. After 5-1/2 years fighting breast cancer, she passed away on June 23. Her husband, (my son Scott), and her doctor both recommended that she not ride. Megan responded that it was on her “bucket” list—it was something she wanted desperately to do and had to do—and she knew that it would be her last ride of any kind She knew it would not be the 63 miles that we had done the previous three years. But it would be whatever she could do."

"She had her spine radiated the day before the ride. The morning of the ride, she drained the fluid from her lungs, took off her oxygen and did not take her morphine because she wanted to be stable when riding. She mounted her bike in Lewiston on June 4 and without a wobble or a wiggle headed out on the ride. Her husband, drove and parked every mile ahead to keep contact her. At 5 miles she was in too much pain to continue. Scott put her bike into his truck. She again attached the oxygen. He then drove to one mile before the finish line, took the bike out, detached the oxygen, and Megan rode that last mile through the finish line. Her uncomplaining continual fight against cancer has been an inspiration to hundreds."

"Megan was 35 years old, married to Scott, with a 6 year old daughter Erica and an 8 year old son Josh. It has been a 4-year family tradition for Scott, Josh and Erica to park intermittently along the Little Red route and cheer all bikers, especially Mom and Grandma. She truly loved the Little Red ride. It has always been my favorite ride too—especially with her as my partner. I will miss her. I will ride Little Red in her memory next year!"

Now, for the first time, Huntsman Hometown Heroes (HHH) is joining forces with Little Red Riding Hood! Only 100 spots are available for the first ever Little Red HHH team. And, unbelievably, half of these spots are already taken.

To participate, each HERO commits to fundraising a minimum of $750 for cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Welcome to Little Red Riding Hood 2012!

The Little Red Riding Hood Bicycle Ride is women's only non-competitive bicycle ride through the beautiful Cache Valley area of northern Utah. June 2nd, 2012 will be the 25th year for the ride! Little Red is organized by the Bonneville Cycling Club (the largest cycling club in Utah).

Our mission is to provide:

A Good Time
Little Red Riding Hood is sponsored and organized by volunteer cyclists who want to provide a great ride and fun experience for fellow cyclists.

A Great Ride
LRRH is great for every woman…from the seasoned century rider to the first time event rider. The course includes 5 distances ranging from 17 to 100 miles. We love that families, friends and co-workers challenge each other to train and ride LRRH. We have many families with riders from several generations riding LRRH together.

An Opportunity to raise money for cancer research
We strive to create an environment that promotes a strong sisterhood for exercising our bodies and clearing our head for a day of cycling in beautiful Cache Valley. As a strong sisterhood we help raise money for women’s cancer research and this year we are excited to be partnering with the Hometown Heroes program through the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Here at Little Red, we are Feelin' Groovy as we design, plan and put some finishing touches on the details for Little Red 2012.
